今天小編要介紹的片語是【go by】 to use (something) as a guide or help in doing something:

Ex.

1. 1.     We’re not sure if we’ll get there – all we have to go by is some barely legible directions.
2. 2.     The pupils were told that if they went by the rule, they would not get into trouble.
3. 3.     I went by the recipe, but the cake turned out to be inedible.
